Britts Donuts officially opened for the season Friday afternoon!

The line, as expected, stretched all the way to the end of the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.

Every year locals, and tourists follow their noses to the familiar smell of the perfect sugar-y, ooey, gooey doughnut.

Some have never tried the famous doughnut but are curious to see what all the hype is about. Others have been every year since they can remember.

Sometimes you can wait in line for hours on opening day.

So we wanted to see why some people, the die-hard Britts fans, and the curious ones that have never been, wait in that long line.

The answers ranged from “Them doughnuts. They’re good and melt in your mouth,” to “I’ve never been but based on this line, they must be good.”

The shop will be open Saturday, March 30 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. and then again on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

They will remain open on weekends only until Memorial Day when they will be open for the rest of the season daily.

The shop closes every year in October for off-season, but always reopens just in time for tourist season.

If this year will be your first time ever trying a doughnut (or two.. or three… or a dozen) from the notorious doughnut shop, don’t worry about what kind to try because they only make and sell one kind: Glazed.

Britts is celebrating their 80th year of being open this year. The shop opened its doors in 1939.
