What was formerly The Causeway Café for nearly 32 years, officially has a new owner.

Gulfstream Restaurant in Carolina Beach announced Saturday that they have purchased the old Causeway Café and will be opening a second Gulfstream in that location.

According to their Facebook post they are “excited to be extending the Gulfstream family to another wonderful NC coastal community!”

The restaurant is hopeful to open their doors in May barring any setbacks in the remodeling.

Gulfstream Restaurant has been family owned and operated for over 35 years. They serve “casual, everyday style food,” for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Gulfstream owner Ed Thomas says they are thinking about incorporating some Causeway Cafe menu items into their own menu.

“I think we’re going to look at some of the menu items that they probably served before,” Thomas said. “It probably won’t be the exact menu that we have in Gulstream, probably looking to expand.”

Causeway Café announced its closing on Facebook in October of 2018 and shut their doors for good on November 4, 2018.

Causeway’s owner, Dave Monaghan, said the closing of the Wrightsville Beach staple was in timing with his retirement and he planned to relax and enjoy time with his family.

Thomas says that because of the location, he’s looking forward to greeting their new customers and hopes to retain some of the Causeway Café faithful with the promise of a family atmosphere.
