Trailer maintenance. It’s not always on the forefront of every boater’s mind, but it’s definitely something you should not take for granted.

Marine Warehouse Center’s president, Terrell Horton, says trailer maintenance is an important part of making any boating day go smoothly.

Horton provided us with some tips on how to best maintain your boat trailer.

Q: How often should a trailer be serviced?
A: Horton says a trailer should be serviced at least once a year. But to keep in mind that people who do more hauling than others should be better at keeping up with the services than those that only haul once a month or once every other month. “Trailer maintenance is probably one of the most important things as far as getting your boat to the water,” Horton said.

Q: Does a trailer come with the purchase of a new boat?
A: A boat trailer doesn’t always come with the purchase of a boat. Horton says it’s up to the individual to decide if they do or do not want a trailer.

Q: Is a maintenance plan worth it?
A: Yes! Have your trailer serviced at least annually.

Q: What should I do with my trailer when I am not using it?
A: Wash it, check the air pressure in the tires, check the springs, etc.

Q: What else can I find at Marine Warehouse to help with trailer maintenance?
A: Axles, springs, hubs, bearings, brackets, and all other necessary things you would need to keep your trailer maintained.
