Maze Craze open with new COVID-friendly technology to help you through the maze
Maze Craze at Galloway Farm in Columbus County opened for the fall season at the end of September with some new COVID-friendly technology in place to help guests find their way through the maze.
In years past, guest have received a punch card and had to find and punch all 10 destinations in the maze before they could exit. This year, they have created a “contactless checkpoint card” on your phone. You simply scan the QR code at each destination and it automatically keeps track of your progress.
The new website also allows you to use a GPS to show you where you are in the maze and to guide you to the next destination.
Alma Galloway, owner of Maze Craze, says she thinks this new technology is going to be something they will continue to do for the years to come even when COVID is no longer an issue.
“I think the reaction is going to be good,” Galloway said. “We’ve all adapted immensely to the situations and we’re making different changes in our lives and I think this is going to be something that people are going to appreciate and I think it’s going to be a more fun way of doing the maze.”
The design of the maze this year reads “Discover Columbus County”. The maze has partnered with the county to bring awareness to all the fun things there are to do in the area.
“Columbus County has many attractions – outdoor attractions, indoor attractions, great destinations that people just don’t know about and so that’s kind of what we’ve done,” Galloway said. “It [the maze] is the logo for Columbus County – the ship, and it says ‘Discover Columbus County.’”
Another fun farm game that’s new this year is an augmented reality farm experience game. Remember Pokémon Go? It’s kind of like that, but on a farm and the goal is to catch all the farm animals.
“This is just another one of those contactless experiences that’s going to socially distance everybody while they’re here on the farm.”
Maze Craze is open Tuesdays – Fridays by appointment only and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
