The space where The Scoop in the Cotton Exchange was, is now in new hands and has a new name.

Rooster & The Crow owners Allen Carpenter and Zach Harmon took over the shop and renamed it Nutty Buddies.

The duo thought the name was fitting because they both love peanut butter, they sell Nutty Buddies Ice Cream bars in the shop and according to them, the name is also in reference to their “nutty” personalities.

“The name ‘Nutty Buddies’ comes from our crazy personalities,” the owners said. “Who in their right mind would open a new business during a pandemic?”

Well, they did. They opened a new business during a pandemic.

Carpenter and Harmon say they always had hopes of opening an ice cream/retail shop. They even bought the space across the hall from the Rooster & The Crow restaurant for that very reason. Instead, they ended up turning that space into a private event space called The Nest, and have now been able to use it for social distancing due to COVID.

“Unfortunately the pandemic has shuttered a lot of businesses doors,” Rooster & The Crow owners said. “With that said, one more business closed which was The Scoop at the Cotton Exchange.”

Carpenter and Harmon decided they couldn’t pass on the opportunity of opening their ice cream shop so they took a leap of faith and took over The Scoop space.

“It was a tough decision to change the name of a business that has held the same name since 1978,” Carpenter and Harmon said about The Scoop. “Our final decision was to try to brand it with our own personal spin.”

Nutty Buddies is not just an ice cream shop. They have some quality sandwiches as well that the owners say customers already love.

Here are a few of the sandwiches they named that are on their menu:

  • The Tripper – a meatball sub
  • Pig Pickin’ – an Eastern NC BBQ sandwich
  • Foghorn Leghorn – grilled buffalo chicken sandwich with cream cheese, pepper jack cheese, ranch or blue cheese, on grilled sourdough
  • Antoinette – London broil roast beef, French brie, red onion, and mushroom gravy
