While a traditional dinner or gathering may be hard to come by, the restrictions in place should not stop you from doing something extra special for the moms in your life.
Mother’s Day 2020 will go down as one of the most unusual compared to year’s past. While a traditional dinner or gathering may be hard to come by, the restrictions in place should not stop you from doing something extra special for the moms in your life.
Here is what you will need:
- Popsicle sticks
- Hot glue
- Optional stickers or decorative craft items
- A 2 ½ X 3 ¾ picture of you and Mom
1. Assemble your base frame.
Start off by gluing four popsicle sticks together in a square using hot glue. This will be the support structure that anchors your photo frame together. Pick an end and add three additional sticks to one side and secure them in place. If you want to paint the front of your frame, this would be a good time.
2. Build a ledge inside for your picture to stand
Once the paint is dry, flip your frame over and add three more popsicle sticks in between the stats at the bottom. You will need to trim the rounded ends off your popsicle sticks to do this. Parents make sure you help at this step to ensure you are using a study pair of scissors. Glue the three pieces in between the four slats that make up the bottom.
3. Prepare and cover the back.
Before gluing the remaining horizontal sticks in place, take eight of the 12 sticks needed and paint them. Why do this? Because you never know if Mom will want to add a newer, yet smaller photo in the frame. Once the paint dries, glue your painted ends face down, so they cover the empty part of the frame. Add the remaining four sticks to complete the back. You will not be able to see these unpainted sticks, as they will cover your picture support assembled in the previous step. Once the glue dries, go over the back of the frame with your choice of paint.
4. Add a stand or additional support to the frame to make it stand.
For extra rigidity I glued two popsicles sticks vertically on each end. This was to make sure none of my sticks on the back would pop off. Using two additional popsicle sticks I glued between a 45- and 80-degree angle, I created a stand to make the picture stay upright. You will need to trim the ends and secure it with glue for it to stay in place.
5. Add some flair to your frame
Let your creativity and love for mom shine by decorating the front of the frame with stickers, paint, or other items that Mom will love. There is no right or wrong way to do it, just have fun and make it your own. Finally snag a pic of you and mom and place it front and center in the frame. The inside should measure near 2 ½ inches tall and 3 ¾ inches long. Your measurements may vary. Printing a picture from the computer may be the easiest as you can set custom dimensions when you print.
A picture is worth 1000 words and with this crafty picture frame, you might leave mom speechless.
