Dating Sunday is January 2nd, and is a great time if you’re single to put yourself out there. According to Bumble, January 2nd is one of the busiest times of the year on the platform.

We heard from Bumble’s relationship expert Shan Boodram about all the quirky trends that availed after quarantine.

Explori-dating: The pandemic has made almost half of us (48%) question what our ‘type’ is. Looking ahead to 2022, more than 1 in 3 people on Bumble would describe their approach to dating as exploratory (43%) and more than one-third (34%) of respondents in the U.S. say they are more open to exploring a relationship with someone who lives in another city.

Consciously Single: 2022 is all about finding that someone, not just anyone. The pandemic has made half of us (53%) realize that it’s OK to be alone for a while.

Dry Dating: Throughout the pandemic, many have changed their relationship to alcohol and adopted new drinking habits. In fact, 1 in 3 (34%) people globally are now more likely to consider going on a ‘dry date’.

Power PDA: With vaccination rates increasing - PDA is back in a big way and it looks like it’s not just celebrities that are into it. Globally, more than 2 in 3 (68%) say that they are more open to public displays of affection post-pandemic. This rings true in the U.S. with 69% agreeing with the sentiment.

According to several of the popular dating apps people are using their apps to find friendships and business partners as well. In fact, 57% of people using dating apps have fostered new friendships.

We’ve seen that how we date is different as well. Some are now doing video calls as opposed to actual in person first dates.

No matter how you choose to date Shan had some important tips for putting your best self forward.

  • Having trouble with filling out your profile? Ask your best friend to help. It’s sometimes easier for our friends to articulate the traits that make us special.
  • Update your profile. It’s time to get back in front of the camera, and update your pictures. Single pictures instead of group shots are preferred.
  • Meaningful connections are the biggest trend for 2022 and apps like bumble have made different profile badges to help you find the “one”.
