You’ll want to visit this new whiskey + wine bar in the cargo district on your next night out in Wilmington

Housed in the container district on Queen Street the Starling bar is a new whiskey + wine bar that opens Friday, April 15th.

An indoor/outdoor concept is a cool one. Made of two containers the bottom open-air space has picnic tables perfect for group gatherings. A mural is painted on the white container of a group of starling birds. The starling birds are symbolic of unity and are often seen flocking together which seems fitting for a bar.

Inside the bottom container you’ll find the bar with deep forest green walls and wood accents. Whiskey bottles line wooden shelves and gold accents adorn the clean aesthetic.

Upstairs you’ll find a few cozy tables in the narrow low-lit narrow container space. The walls are lined with beautiful glasswork and brass mirrors which fill the space with an amazing floral aroma.

The two partners Matthew Ray and Abbye McGee have carefully calibrated the Starling brand as something exceptional. Offering rare one-of-a-kind whiskeys and wines as well as hand crafted cocktails.

We tried the sanctimonious grandad a lux take on a traditional whiskey coke with citrus bitters. It’s not a brazen cocktail, but a delectable one.

The Starling drinks are not inexpensive, but they are worth the price tag. This is the place you’ll want to visit on your next night on the town.
