Friday, May 20th

Wrightsville Beach Spearfishing Tournament

330 Causeway Drive Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480

Each year the best regional scuba and free divers (diving without an oxygen tank) gather to match spearfishing prowess on the battlefield of the Atlantic Ocean. Three days of underwater hunting are measured with daily weigh-ins and the champions are crowned at the awards celebration. Join in for a weekend of sportsmanship on the high seas.

7th Annual Coastal Duck Derby

5320 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403 | 5:30 PM

The 7th Annual Coastal Duck Derby returns to the Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park on Friday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m.

Participants can adopt a rubber duck for $5 to race down the lazy river alongside nearly 20,000 other ducks. The event itself is free to anybody and welcomes children and adults.

Got-Em-On Live Bait Club provides a day of fishing, food and fun for those with disabilities on the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. With hundreds of participants annually, and an exciting awards ceremony at the end of the event, this is a fishing favorite. Comedian Jenny Yang

Laugh the night away with a former labor organizer turned stand up comedian who was selected for both Variety’s “10 Comics To Watch” and Vulture’s “Comedians You Should Know.” Jenny recently wrapped as a co-producer/writer for “Gordita Chronicles”, “Last Man Standing” and the late-night talk show “Busy Tonight”. As creator/host of “Comedy Crossing,” held inside the Animal Crossing video game and watched via Zoom, she has helped raise over $40,000 for #BlackLivesMatter-related causes. Taiwan-born and Southern California-raised, Jenny Yang was honored by President Obama as a “White House Champion of Change” for her leadership in “Asian American and Pacific Islander Art and Storytelling”.

Uptilt Film Festival

Join the excitement with the Uptilt Film Festival, formerly the Cinema Sister’s International Film Festival. This festival showcases films and videos of any genre made by female and gender-expansive filmmakers. Films run less than thirty minutes, and are submitted from around the globe with past year’s submissions coming from Spain, Italy, Russia, the UK, Canada, Vietnam, France, Turkey and across the USA.

Saturday, May 21th

Run4Ukraine 5K Run / Walk

Soundside Park, 517 Roland Avenue, Surf City, NC 28445, USA | 7:00am - 12:00pm

Join RAW Functional Nutrition, Coastal Fitness Center and our community as we show our support and run / walk the Surf City Bridge for Ukraine. Our 5K route starts at Soundside Park, traveling over our beautiful Surf City Bridge into Atkinson Point neighborhood and back over the bridge, ending at Soundside Park.

Entry Fee: Adults: $40 (incl. t-shirt) + processing fee; Children 5-13: $20 (incl. wristband) + processing fee

100% proceeds go to Direct Relief Org - Ukraine. Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies – without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay. Since February 24, Direct Relief has provided medical aid nearing 200 tons in weight, with more on the way. All items were provided at the request of, and approved by, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health. Direct Relief’s medical donations have been mobilized from inventories within Ukraine, the organization’s distribution center in the Netherlands, and from emergency airlifts from the United States.

Keller Williams & The Keels

A lakeside night under the stars has never been so magical as when Keller Williams, the singer, songwriter who combines every musical genre known to man for a unique musical style he fondly refers to as “Appalachian Psychedelic Bluegrass” is joined by award winning flat picker Larry Keel and his bass playing wife, Jenny Keel, for a picking powerhouse of harmonies. This promises to be a fast-paced romp with your favorite songs played with joyful abandon. Keller describes their extraordinarily performances as “...acoustic picking parties. We vowed from the beginning that we wouldn’t do it often so that when we did, it would be as special and it is.”

Oakdale Cemetery History Walking Tour

Oakdale Cemetery 520 North 15th Street Wilmington, NC 28401

Tour North Carolina’s oldest rural cemetery. The eloquent epitaphs and symbolic funerary art tell stories of those who lie beneath, and bring them to life for the living. The graves represent veterans from all wars and all branches of service, politicians, artists, architects, writers, developers, merchants, planters, fraternal order members, exporters, immigrants, victims of Yellow Fever epidemics, wives, mothers, infants and children, and a female Confederate spy. The information area at the main gate has copies of a self-guided walking tour of the Cemetery’s areas of interest.

1st Annual Fancy Pants Croquet Soiree & Tournament

Mike Chappell Park, 501 Dow Road South, Carolina Beach, NC, 28428 | 11:00am - 3:00pm

Put on your best pair of fancy pants and support the Carolina Beach Mural Project while enjoying rounds of Croquet, Live Music by Courtney Lynn and Quinn, Nauti Dog Cocktail tent, Good Hops Beer and Wine tent, Wheelz Pizza, and awesome trousers.

Teams of two will compete for for bragging rights, and great prizes, like a free week long stay in Cabo San Lucas and two tickets to the Beach Music Festival!

And of course, prizes will be awarded for the fanciest pants!

Not a Croquet expert? We aren’t either, but we will all have fun trying!

About Carolina Beach Mural Project~ The Carolina Beach Mural Project is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that celebrates Carolina Beach’s rich history through Public Art. To date, the organization has installed 9 murals with an additional 4 to be installed before the end of the year.

Seaside Soccer Classic

Enjoy the annual Seaside Soccer Classic featuring over 300 of some of the best soccer teams. This unrestricted tournament is open to USYS/Affiliate State Associations that play Challenge, Select, Classic and Premier Boys U10-U19 league play, and USYS/Affiliate State Associations that play Challenge, Select, Classic and Premier Girls U10-U15 league play, as well as US Club teams. It will be held at various fields throughout New Hanover County-- Eaton Fields, nCino Sports Park, Long Leaf Park Athletic Complex Fields, Ogden Park, Roland Grise, Veterans Park, Ashley High School, Murray Middle School and Castle Hayne Park.

Thursday, May 26th

Black History Hike

Meet at MLK Center, 401 S. 8th Street

This Urban Hike will be one and a half to two miles long. It will start at the MLK Center, on 8th St. and around the area including 7th Street – to cover the Gregory Congregational Church where he will discuss the Wilmington Ten. Urban Hikers will learn about historical sites such as Gregory High, Robert Strange Park and Williston School.

About the hike leader:

Imam Abdul Rahman Shareef, is a noted historian and has traveled around the globe and was featured in the North Carolina Portraits of Faith highlighting the history of religions in the state of North Carolina. He is frequently requested to speak on Black History on many public forums.

The Trash’n Fash’n Show

Spring Selections by Brierwood Ensemble

The Brierwood Ensemble is thrilled to perform its spring concert in the gorgeous sanctuary Saint James Episcopal Church (25 S 3rd St.) in Wilmington, NC.

Join us for a relaxing and delightful evening of chamber music. The program includes Vivaldi’s G minor chamber concerto, a selection from Martinu’s Madrigals for violin and viola, a movement from Henriette Renie’s trio for violin, bassoon, and harp, and William Grant Still’s Out of the Silence for solo harp.

Hot Dog Saturday with Paws Place at Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson

Join us at Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson Saturday, May 28th, from 11am to 2pm for a hot dog lunch including chips and drink served up by Paws Place Dog Rescue. We will have adorable pups and new and used Harley-Davidson’s, who are looking for their forever homes. Donations are appreciated and go to Paws Place Dog Rescue. Adoptions are encouraged.
