September 1st

PUFFS! or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic & Magic

For seven years a certain boy wizard went to Wizard School. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A play for anyone who has never been destined to save the world.

Performances will be held in the Wilson Center Studio Theatre at the Cape Fear Community College’s beautiful campus in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Show dates are September 1-4 and 8-11. Opera House Theatre Company Presents Funny Girl: The Musical

In the Ziegfeld Follies, in Hollywood films, and on the radio, Fanny Brice was one of the most celebrated entertainers of her time. With humor, talent and chutzpah, young Fanny, an awkward Jewish girl who “isn’t pretty,” defies the odds and becomes one of the greatest stars of her generation. Fanny’s rise to super-stardom and her turbulent romance with gambler Nick Arnstein are explored through Bob Merrill and Jule Styne’s unforgettable score, which includes “People,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” “The Music That Makes Me Dance,” and “You Are Woman, I Am Man.”

Massive Grass in Concert at Fort Fisher

Massive Grass performs an extra set as part of the free summer lawn concerts for the whole family at the Fort Fisher Air Force Recreation Area. The British Invaders in Concert

He started hating Muslims when the planes hit the Twin Towers on 9/11, but is forced to confront his hate when he receives a text from Muslim refugee, Heval. REFUGE illustrates the false promises of hate and reveals where real and lasting refuge is found. Where there is love, there is refuge. REFUGE is set in the most diverse square mile in America - Clarkston, Georgia - and follows a Syrian Kurd, a former Klansman, and a town of refugees who seek belonging in a country that blames them for its problems.

Spend a thrilling evening riverside with the alternative-indie rock bands Dispatch and O.A.R. Dispatch has grown to be one of the most successful independent bands in history. Without any typical radio or big label support, the roots-rock jam band sold out numerous nights at Madison Square Garden and drew over 100,000 concertgoers. O.A.R. is a rock fan-favorite with the initials representing “of a revolution”. The platinum-certified band has sold out Madison Square Garden multiple times, filled Red Rocks Amphitheater many nights, earned platinum and gold status on multiple recordings, energized Times Square on New Year’s Eve.

Latimer House Night Tour

During your tour of the historic Latimer House at night, get a taste of real Victorian life. Experience the atmosphere of 19th-century gaslight (without electricity), learn about the history of that technology, how it operated, and what it meant to individuals from all societal levels who lived and worked in its “lurid glow” with the help of interpreters. Given the number of original furnishings and artifacts still present in the house that belonged to the Latimer family, this tour is exceptionally moving. Although they are not assured, supernatural encounters have been documented.

Summer Jazz Series at the Mansion

Kyiv City Ballet: Classics & The Men of Kyiv

A Rave for the Waves

Members of the Wrightsville Beach Outrigger Canoe Club are paddling the North Carolina coast to advocate for clean water, empower local communities, bring awareness of contamination and protect the most vital element of our lives: water.

A collaborative effort of everyday people who believe everyone should have access to clean water, the journey along the southeastern NC coast kicks off on September 14th when paddlers will launch from Sunset Beach on their first 120-mile leg.

Join us at the N.Sea Oyster Barn on Friday, September 16th for a bivalves, beer and burrito bash to meet the paddlers as they come through and enjoy fresh local oysters, brews and bites!

Each ticket includes admission to the party, taco bar from Shaka Taco, two oysters from N.Sea Oyster Co., beer from Waterman’s Brewing Company and live music by The Swellians!

Pier-2-Pier Open Water Swim Race

This yearly event requires swimming 1.7 miles around marker buoys between Johnnie Mercers Pier and the Crystal Pier. Constitution Day Wilmington

Constitution Day Wilmington is a local celebration in partnership with area organizations, schools and governing bodies with the intention to educate and engage the community through interactive and entertaining activities. Constitution Day Wilmington’s mission is to instill an awareness of the US Constitution and celebrate the freedoms that our Forefathers protected in this founding document.

The 7th annual American Craft Walk

Downtown Wilmington Front Street from Orange Street to Grace Street and on Princess Street from Front Street to 2nd Street. | 10 AM – 5 PM

The 7th annual American Craft Walk featuring over 100 local vendors will take place on Saturday, September 17. Entry is free, and attendees can buy items from the vendors if they so choose.

Tents and vendors will be set up along Front Street from Orange Street to Grace Street and on Princess Street from Front Street to 2nd Street. Jewelry, decorations, clothes and more will be for sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Black River Nature Cruises

Spend a thrilling evening with Grand Funk Railroad, the ultimate “American Band,” whose distinctive hard driving sound, soulful vocals, powerful musicianship, and powerful pop tunes have been fan favorites for more than fifty years. Their international mega-hits “We’re an American Band,” “The Loco-Motion,” and “I’m Your Captain (Closer to Home)” became generational anthems. YMCA Wrightsville Beach Sprint Triathlon

The largest one-day race ever held was historically from northern Virginia to Florida. This eagerly awaited USA Triathlon-sanctioned race will include a 1,150-meter swim, an 11.5-mile bike ride, and a 5K run in Wrightsville Beach, taking full advantage of the topography there. It debuted at Number One on the Billboard Top Country Albums list and broke the record for the biggest launch streaming week for a female-produced country album with 23.96 million streams.
