Tips to help you relax, renew, and recharge
It’s safe to say that the stress of the past (almost) year and a half now has taken a toll on peoples mental and physical health.
It’s important to remember to take care of yourself and put yourself first.
The ladies at niche. Decor & Gifts recognize that every season demands a different version of ourselves. That is why this month, we sat down with a friend of theirs, Lisa Brooks. Brooks is a clinical social worker and the founder of Wilmington Thrive Tribes.
Brooks shared some tips with us on how to better relax, renew, and recharge yourself.
Tip #1: Boundaries
Boundaries can often make you feel like you’re going to disappoint someone. Brooks says her best strategy is to “own your ‘Yes’ and own your ‘No.’” The kindest, most compassionate people in the world have the best boundaries. Risk the discomfort and stay focused on living the life that matters the most to you.
Tip #2: Stay present
Our culture can be so noisy and so chaotic. Being in the there and now is a gift. When we’re too focused on the past, we tend to ruminate and worry. And when we’re too focused on the future, we bring about a lot of anxiety and end up trying to control and manipulate things that are beyond our control. Staying present is a gift that leads to abundance.
Tip #3: Self-compassion instead of comparison
Dr. Brene Brown says that “comparison is the thief of joy.” Our culture thrives on comparison and discontent. When the comparison monster comes knocking, say ‘Hello,’ then pivot towards compassion. Say kind and generous things to yourself, about yourself. You’re the only person who can do what you can do, the way that you can do it.
Tip #4: Gratitude
Gratitude is a practice that can help you shake off toxic energy and deal with hard to feel feelings. It’s not about perfection, but rather a way to get grounded in the present and stay focused on the things that matter most.
