  • Cape Fear Winery is hosting the East Coast premiere of paintings by Bernie Taupin, lifelong visual artist and world renowned song writer for Sir Elton John of such hits as “Rocket Man”, “Crocodile Rock”, “Candle in the Wind”, “Bennie and the Jets”, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, “Mona Lisa and Mad Haters”, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”, “Daniel”, and the list goes on. “Reflections: The Art of Bernie Taupin” features a collection of original works and hand-signed limited editions of only 50 prints created as a tribute to his partnership of 50 years with Elton John. Its subject matter is inspired by hit songs the two created together.

  • Shakespeare on the Green presents Two Gentleman of Verona at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater in Wilmington, NC. The production follows two best friends who are leaving home, with one who has a secret crush on a local girl. Sent to the Emperor’s Court to learn to be “perfect gentlemen,” both friends, aided by devious servants, are sidetracked by infatuation with the Emperor’s daughter. Please note: Donations gratefully accepted. Doors open at 6:30pm. Picnics welcome. Light concessions available for purchase.

  • The 6th Annual Film Festival at Jengos’ Playhouse in downtown Wilmington, NC, showcases the works of female filmmakers all over the world. SCHEDULE — Friday: Actress Casey Wilson kicks off the festival with a live Zoom Q&A. The evening’s feature film, The Hive, is followed by a social hour with a Q&A with a local beekeeper; Saturday: Four blocks of short films and a New Orleans themed afterparty (8-10 pm) with food by T’Geaux Boys, live music, beer, and wine; Sunday: Three blocks of short films. Proceeds from the festival go towards grants for local female filmmakers.

Hooley Under the Bridge: 4th Annual Irish Music Festival

  • Hooley Under the Bridge: 4th Annual Irish Music Festival at Waterline Brewing in Wilmington, NC, features music and and dancing (hooley) with proceeds benefiting the Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day Parade, scheduled for September 18. Entertainment begins with Mr. Mark’s Music and an array of games, such as Irish Bingo, followed by performances by the Wilmington Police Pipes and Drums, Striking Copper, Blarney Brogues, Ewes Tree, and Irish dancers from the Walsh-Kelley School.
