11th Annual Local Food Conference

Online | Details

  • Feast Down East’s 11th Annual Local Food Conference features a two-day virtual event that brings together community members who are involved in supporting and growing the local food system in Southeastern North Carolina. This includes farmers and fishermen, food retailers and establishments, foodies, advocates, and community leaders. The purpose of the conference is to strengthen the activities of these groups and the relationships between them. Workshop topics include agricultural and gardening techniques, cooking demonstrations, and the policy work of local food councils. The keynote speaker is chef, restaurateur, author, and NC native Vivian Howard. HOURS: Friday, noon to 4:30pm; Saturday, 10am to 2pm.

Comedy at the Kettle

The Brewer’s Kettle Wilmington | 6:30 p.m. | Details

  • This will be an outdoor stand-up comedy show. Hosted by Zack Burk and featuring Feliz Nadeau, Ellie Coleman, Jack Nelson, Brian Granger and Lew Morgante. Show starts at 7pm. $5 cover to be paid the day of. Extra parking available at the bank on Parkway or at Long Leaf Park.

Night Tours of the Burgwin-Wright House

Burgwin-Wright House & Gardens | 8 p.m. | Details

  • Experience Colonial nightlife at the Burgwin-Wright House! Guided by interpreters, they’ll reveal the rituals and superstitions of bygone times- a life without electricity and modern conveniences. They offer a tour at 8pm and 9pm. Local Arts & Crafts Market and Llama Rescue

Good Hops Brewing | 1 – 5 p.m. | Details

  • Good Hops Brewing in Carolina Beach, NC, presents a Local Arts & Crafts Market featuring all handcrafted items. This event features a fundraiser for Southeast Llama Rescue and includes live llamas. For $20 you can have a llama caddie your round of disc golf.

The Wilmington Farmers Market At Tidal Creek

5329 Oleander Dr. | 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Details

  • Check out all the local farmers and artisans. There will be farm fresh non gmo eggs, quail eggs(when birds are laying)zucchini bread, flour tortillas, peanut and pecan brittle and much more.

Open Visiting at SkyWatch Bird Rescue

3600 Lynn Ave, Castle Hayne | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Details

  • Have a look around the SkyWatch grounds, interact with the Emus, Goat, and many more of the resident birds. Take pictures, bring some lettuce or grapes to feed our resident birds, carrots or apples for the donkeys. Admission is $5 per person. Kids under 3 are free. Donation taken upon arrival. No advanced tickets needed.

Saving Sharks: A Virtual Program

  • The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher presents Saving Sharks: A Virtual Program, an exploration of unique shark identification for sand tiger sharks in North Carolina and whale sharks in Mexico. Participants will learn how the aquarium and the Vermilion Sea Institute are saving sharks in the wild and how you can help. Recommended for ages 7 and older.

BSL Neighbors Market

  • Twice a month market showcasing local talent, and fresh produce. They are located on the property of The Office Coffee and Wine Bar in Boiling Spring Lakes.

Museum Exhibit: H2O Today

Cape Fear Museum | 1 – 5 p.m. | Details

  • Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, NC, presents H2O Today, an exhibit exploring what it means to live on a planet where 71% of the surface is covered in water, yet less than 3% is drinkable. It explores the science of water and highlights the affects climate change, population growth and pollution have on the water cycle and weather patterns, as well as the creative ways people around the world are tackling the challenges of water shortages and pollution.
