Burney’s Sweets and More in Elizabethtown has been around since 2011.

The original owners, Mr. and Mrs. Burney, perfected the deep-fried croissant in the 90’s and decided to make that the staple of their bakery.

And that’s not all they have. From cakes, to key lime pies, chocolate covered strawberries and more, you really can’t go wrong.

But it’s not just the delicious desserts that keep people coming back. The friendly and familiar atmosphere of the mom and pop bake shop tend to bring in the same faces every day.

Today, Mr. and Mrs. Burney’s son Michael and his wife run the shop.

They have since franchised the business and have eight locations around the state.

Burney says they keep the recipes consistent throughout the stores and aim to have the same “mom-and-pop” feel at each of the locations as well.

“They tell us that one thing they enjoy is that it’s not corporate, yet it’s just mom-and-pop,” Burney said. “You know people by their name. They come in, you usually call out their name and a lot of people like that.”

The recipes for all the items they sell come from Burney’s mother and grandmother.

Everything they make is homemade.

Burney says his favorite thing about the bakery is seeing the smile on people’s faces.

“It’s great to get a true smile out of appreciation and it’s just something they’ve never had before,” Burney said.
