Juneteenth events in Wilmington next week

Juneteenth is coming up next Saturday, June 19. It celebrates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas were finally informed that they were free, two and a half years after The Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

There are lots of events going on in Wilmington the week leading up to Juneteenth to help you celebrate. The Juneteenth Committee of Wilmington has released a list of those events here.

June 12

  • Juneteenth opening libation – 10 a.m. at the 1898 Memorial Park

June 15

  • Booked and Busy: Mama Day – 6:30 p.m. via Zoom

June 16

  • I Am Not Your Negro showing and Discussion – TBD

June 17

  • Juneteenth Urban Hike – 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the MLK Center

Gamma Kappa Lambda afterwork mixer – 5:30 p.m. at Palate Bottle Shop

June 18

  • Because it’s time: Unveiling of Dare Coulter Artwork – 10 – 11 a.m. at the UNCW Amphitheater
