New ital/vegan food truck on the move in the Port City

Vital Seen is one of the newest food trucks to hit the streets in the Port City and they are serving up ital food.

Ital is the diet of the Rastafari movement of Jamaica. It is a vegetarian diet intended to improve health and energy.

“It has a lot of Jamaican, Rastafarian, Ethiopian vibe to it as well as vegan,” Co-owner Tripp Engel said. “We have no meat products and no gluten on the truck.”

The truck was able to start operating in March and Engel says the response from the community has been great so far despite the pandemic.

“We didn’t really have the normal venues that food trucks are able to go to right off the bat like the breweries and the concerts and things of that venue so we kind of had to find our own spots but we’ve been doing okay,” Engel said.

Some of the most popular items on the menu are the falafel bowl and the pumpkin curry.

The pumpkin curry is definitely a favorite of co-owner Willie Swain.

“That pumpkin curry is just full of flavor and it fills you up too,” Swain said.

Swain says one of his favorite things about the food truck so far is seeing the customers response to the food.

“You make it good and you make it like it’s supposed to be and you get the customers response… It’s priceless,” Swain said.
