Get ready for the ride of a lifetime coming to NC soon!

Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster announced in early January on their Facebook page that they do not have an official opening date as of yet but “expect to be open mid-February” if they don’t have any other delays.

If you’ve never heard of or seen an alpine coaster before, it’s described as “a type of roller coaster which uses a bobsled-like sled or cart to run down a track usually built on the side of a hill,” according to Wikipedia.

So basically, once you get to the top of the mountain, you just let gravity guide you down.

According to an article from Romantic Asheville, “the 2,160 feet of tract descends through the forests via banked turns with baking controlled by the rider. The run has plenty of curves around boulders and trees for an exciting ride – complete with the latest safety technology.”

The coaster is located in Banner Elk, NC – a little over 70 miles from Asheville.

According to the Romantic Asheville article, there are only about 20 or so of these alpine coasters in the United States.

We’ll update this story when they post an official opening date, but for now, get excited by checking out this epic video they posted as a sneak peek of the coaster.

Our crew can’t have all the fun. Here is a sneak peek of the fun awaiting you. We will be open in a few weeks. Stay tuned for our official opening date.
