Our top favorite places in the Cape Fear to watch the sunset

Whether it’s cold winter evening or a humid, and sticky summer night, we think the Cape Fear has some of the best an most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen. From Fort Fisher to Downtown Wilmington there are many places to stop and take in the natural beauty of watching the sun set over the Cape Fear region.
Here are our top favorite places to see the sunset:

The south end at Wrightsville Beach

It’s no secret that the beach a great place to watch a sunset but at the South end of Wrightsville beach you can watch it set completely over the water without anything getting in its way. The best part about it is that you’ll never see the same sunset twice. To get there, take a right onto South Lumina Ave at the Oceanic restaurant and drive until you hit the water.

The rocks at Fort Fisher

Just down the road from the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is North Carolina’s only coquina outcrop in the state. These beautiful rocks are fully exposed at the lowest tide and make for beautiful scenery to go along with that gorgeous Cape Fear sunset.

If you don’t feel like getting your feet all sandy from a beach sunset but you still want to see those beautiful colors at the end of the day, head on down to the Riverwalk and take a stroll for the best view as the sun fades away behind the USS North Carolina battleship. Visitors and residents alike say the view is “breathtaking.”

The boardwalk at Riverlights

You can stroll along the Cape Fear River waterfront on the boardwalk in the newly developed RiverLights community in Wilmington. RiverLights says it’s a great way to re-energize and reconnect with the river. “Sip a cocktail and watch the sky melt into shades of red.” Those who have experienced it say RiverLights is the best place to see the sunset in Wilmington.
